Trying to get to Belize

So, getting to Belize turned out to be an adventure all of its own. We were scheduled to fly out of Milwaukee at 5:30 am on Monday morning. Mike checked the website at about 1:30 to check if our flight was on time- it was canceled. We were supposed to fly through Charolette and they got several inches of snow that night. So, we called US Airways like we were supposed to be put on hold for 2 hours and then they hung up on us. So, we had to call back and wait another hour and half to talk to a person. Who tells us pretty much there is nothing she can do for us except put us on a plane on Wednesday. We didn't like the sounds of that and since we had lots of time waiting on hold we knew we could get a flight on Contential flying out of Chicago that would still get us to Belize that day. So, we canceled our US Air tickets, bought new ones on Contential and rushed to get O Hare. We of course got stuck in rush hour traffic and so by the time we got to the counter there was only 30 minutes to our flight. At which time we found out we didn't have tickets, we only had reservations and there wasn't time to issue us tickets for that flight. They got us on an afternoon flight to Houston and an early morning flight to Belize. Thankfully, O Hare has an awesome children's play area that kept Lillianna entertained for pretty much the whole day since we were there all day. When we got to Houston the Continetal customer service was amazing. They put us up in a Hotel for free and gave us vouchers for free dinner and breakfast. Even though it really wasn't even their fault we were stuck there. Everything went smoothly on Tuesday and we were on Tobacco Caye about 2 hours after originally scheduled ready to start our vacation.

Belize

Paradise!

The beach at Tobacco Caye- the whole island is about 4 acre3s, you can literally walk around it in less than 10 minutes. It was about a 45 minute boat ride from the main land and sits right on the barrier reef which is the 2nd largest in the world. We did a little snorkling here, got to see some cool little fish, star fish, conch, and coolest of all some sting rays and eagle rays. They would just float on by in the water.
Our Cabana
The interesting group we ate with- we ran into most of them again on other parts of our trip. The women in blue and the one in red on the end are from Belgium and are on a 5 year tour of the world by bike. They have some stories to tell... we ran into them again while in Plancentia and got to hear some more stories. We don't feel quite so adventurous after meeting them.

Our trusty rental car that got us all around the country
The cottages we stayed at in Maya center- they were in the backyard of a local family who had lots of kids that had fun playing with Lillianna

Hiking in the jungle by the mayflower Mayan ruins, checking out waterfalls

Whispering Pines- we ate dinner here for $8 total and it was pretty good.

Don't see that sign everyday

Waterfall
"swimming"-( getting our feet wet in the cold water) in the waterfalls at the Cockscomb Jaguar preserve.
The decor of the crazy restaurant
the craziest restaurant ever. It was essentially just the front porch of a house. The owners were in watching TV when we arrived.

We thought Lillianna was going to hate going to see Mayan ruins- it was the opposite- she loved them because they were filled with stairs for her to climb.

Our thatch hut that was probably really nice when it was first built, but not super well cared for these days.

I Love the sun and sand!
Fun in the pool!

This place had the BEST gelato EVER. We visited this place every day that we were in Placentia and tried as many flavors and possible.
